David
and
his friend and co-writer, Bill DeMain (Swandive) visited us for
a
house concert here at the Flying Otter Vineyard, Saturday,
Sept
26th at 8 p.m.
Thanks
so
much to all of you who came out to join us for the David Mead concert
this fall. It was a beautiful evening and we had so much fun. David
played many of our favorites, and was even kind enough to extend the
concert for a few more songs after Bob was heckling from the kitchen
area. (I'm glad he did as Queensboro Bridge is one of my favorites
too).
It was extra nice to have the addition of Bill
DeMain
to double the guitar power and provide backing harmonies. The backing
chorus on Poop and Pee was especially effective. You had to be there.
(Seriously, Poop and Pee is one of the tracks for an upcoming
children's album. As the grandma of an adorable toddler, I can tell
you they are all about poop and pee).
Another fine addition to the
lineup was Joe Nemec, who drove in with his brother Adam from Chicago.
Joe added a nice solid bass line on several songs of the evening.
Everything is better with a firm foundation.
Thanks to Bill, we all know that it's not acceptable to wear white
seersucker suits after Labor Day. We are all relieved that he did not
fall into that fashion faux pas trap.
I apologize for not getting the setlist (below) and the recap
up online sooner, but as it happens, the concert this year coincided
with the
prime time for grape picking. In the week before the concert we picked
about a ton of grapes, and in the three days following the show we
picked and processed about two tons. We got all of the picking
completed one full day before the frost hit; very good timing.

Nov 1, 2008
Special thanks to David Mead for visiting us Nov. 1st and sharing
his talents for music and storytelling with our assembled
guests
once again. He's a very talented and gracious gentleman.
Many thanks to all of our friends who came out to the David Mead
concert this year. We had guests from the Detroit area,
Lansing, Chicago, Philadelphia, and many from our local area.
Craig Smith, ukelele convert and expert Mead media collector, has put
the entire show up on youtube for your viewing pleasure. Here
are some of my favorite parts:
